Economic transformation tops the agenda of international development. Economic structural transformation refers to a progressive change in the productive structure and hard as well as soft infrastructure of the economy, which is crucial to job creation, poverty reduction, economic diversification, industrial upgrading and dynamic, inclusive economic growth in a sustainable manner. The transformations of economic structures play an indispensable role in overcoming the low-income and middle-income traps. Economic transformation is at the heart of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agreed upon by United Nations member states in September 2015. African Union has articulated a strategic framework for economic transformation in Vision 2063. Many least-developed countries aspire to graduate from the low-income country status by promoting sustainable economic transformation.
