The Industrial Diamond Association of America, Inc. (IDA) was formed in 1946 and was initially dedicated to industry education, application development and research for natural industrial diamond products. It is the oldest and most prestigious association involved in Industrial Diamond and other ultra-hard materials. In the 1950’s IDA Companies were the first to synthesize diamond in the laboratory and subsequently develop a manufacturing process for the commercial use of manufactured industrial diamond. Over the years, the IDA has expanded its focus to include Cubic Boron Nitride (cBN), Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD), Polycrystalline cBN (PcBN), Drill Diamond, Saw Diamond, Wire Dies, Large Single Crystal Diamond, CVD Diamond, CVD cBN, Nanodiamond, Micron Powders and every other ultra-hard material classified as “superabrasives”.
However, the industry has grown from just material removal applications to a wide range of applications driven by the unique properties of diamond and cBN materials. From optical windows, transistors and wear components to surgical knives, ultra-hard coatings and prosthetics, superabrasives are revolutionizing and transforming every industry. Nanodiamond has taken us all a step further as this material is being used for innovative applications including drug delivery vehicles for cancer killing applications and other new areas of research.Today the IDA is made up of companies that are Superabrasive suppliers, Tool Manufacturers, Diamond Reclaimers, Testing Equipment Manufacturers, Machine Tool Builders, Diamond Dealers, Raw Component Material Suppliers, End Users and Distributors.
With such a broad reach and scope, The IDA continues to be a leading Association for the support of all industries using superabrasive materials for myriad applications.
