Regenerative medicine is an emerging field that has major potential to improve human health by repairing and maintaining existing organs or regenerating new ones. This potential is realized through a combination of a scaffold matrix, progenitor cells, and/or bioactive agents to form a tissue engineering construct to promote organ repair. Biomaterials have been found to play a crucial role in regenerative medicine. Recent work in this field ranges from fundamental studies aimed at manipulating biomaterial properties for the control of biological interactions to the design of novel biomaterials for use in drug delivery and high throughput applications, as well as the design of smart biomaterials for in vivo applications. This symposium invites abstracts at the interface of biomaterials development and regenerative medicine strategies.
