ISHS and Bologna University are pleased to announce the XI Symposium on “Integrating Canopy, Rootstockand Environmental Physiology in Orchard Systems” which will be held in Bologna, Aug. 28 – Sept. 2, 2016.
Bologna University is the oldest, still running University in the world, located in one of the world’s most advanced fruit growing regions. This provides the perfect background for a meeting where knowledge will be exchanged about all facets of fruit growing: from root/scion interactions, to management, to ecophysiology of orchards, in the continuing effort to improve sustainability and efficiency of fruit production.
The Symposium will take place at the “Belmeloro Complex”- Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna. This location within the heart of the city will allow more housing and dining options for the participants. In addition to its addiction to science, Bologna is an attractive food and artistic hub in the heart of the Po Valley of Northern Italy, easy to reach by plane, train or car.
The Symposium will last 5 days and follows the very successful previous ones in Geneva (2008) and Stellenbosch (2012) and will strive to keep up with the tradition of these excellent gatherings, both for the scientific standards and for the professional and personal interactions.
Oral/poster presentations will cover two full days and two half days. A full day technical visit will take place on Wednesday: participants will have the option between one more focused on pome fruit, heading to Ferrara, and one on stone fruit, heading to Cesena. The meeting will end at lunch time on Friday.
A Post-Tour is planned, heading Westwards to Cuneo (Piedmont Region), before returning East and North,to the Trentino and Alto Adige fruit districts.
