Catalysis is a key technology for improving the quality of our lives and the health of our environment. Discovering new catalytic processes and improving existing ones is also critically important for securing our energy supply. The GRC on Catalysis is considered one of the field’s most prestigious conferences, bringing together world-leading researchers from academia, industry and national labs to discuss the latest, most exciting research in catalysis and to speculate on future directions for the field. The 2014 GRC on Catalysis is themed "From Art to Science" and will showcase new developments in the fundamentals of catalysis including theoretical and spectroscopic understanding of catalytic surfaces and catalytic reactions. This year’s sub-theme is rational catalyst synthesis, comprised of symposia on understanding and designing oxides and carbons, metal nanoparticle thermodynamics, and supported nanoparticles synthesis. These are in addition to sessions on industrial catalyst development, computations for catalyst design, state of the art characterization, and the art of surface science. A lively poster program throughout the week will feature industry-judged competitions for graduate students and postdoctoral associates. The Conference will be held in new meeting facilities at Colby-Sawyer College which will include a spacious, hospitality-laden poster area. The dorm rooms provide single and double accommodations and free WiFi. The registration fee includes all meals including the famous Thursday night lobster dinner. Afternoons are kept open for enjoyment of the New England surroundings, with opportunities for hiking, sailing, tennis and golf. The hallmark of this conference is the outstanding ambiance that fosters networking and creates long lasting connections with colleagues.
