Fiber-optic monitoring technologies provide relatively simple yet highly effective solutions across a broad and growing range of oil & gas applications. These technologies can provide significant information needed for asset optimization as well as managing mechanical integrity and environmental risks.
This applied technology workshop will address the characterization and implementation of monitoring systems based on distributed fiber-optic sensors. The interests and capabilities of E&P operators, service companies and technology providers merge to identify true value and guide the management of potential risks associated with distributed fiber-optic measurements. Emphasis will be placed on the review of field examples and well-characterized development projects involving optical well, reservoir and facilities surveillance.
The industry faces challenges associated with robust quantitative interpretation, the relatively high cost of installations and support infrastructure, and the difficulty to rigorously assign economic benefit to the information these fiber optic measurements supply. Technical sessions addressing these challenges will cover topics such as production and injection interpretation, hydraulic fracturing diagnostics, new capabilities in distributed acoustic sensing, advances in field installation techniques and the management of system reliability.
