The 2nd International Workshop on Open Data (WOD), to be held in Paris, France, on June 3, 2013, is one of the very first events that stress new and exciting challenges offered by the emerging field of Open Data, from the viewpoint of scientific research in computer science. After last year successful event in the context of the European Open Data Week in Nantes, this year event will be hosted by the National Library of France (Bibliothèque nationale de France – BnF). The workshop is organized by the ETIS laboratory and by the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Cergy-Pontoise, in the context of the thematic cycle « Open data for cultural heritage information » and of the Patrima Foundation.
Patrima gathers prestigious French cultural institutions, research structures and academic institutions; it federates scientific expertise from both exact sciences and human/social sciences in order to elaborate shared knowledge about tangible cultural heritage, through the development of international research and education programs. In the specific field of data management, Patrima aims at integrating data and knowledge from various sources in order to provide rich information about cultural heritage objects and adopts the Linked Open Data paradigm as a key strategy for building shared cultural data spaces.
