Membrane processes have become ubiquitous in process industries, water and wastewater purification, and even in daily life. The science and engineering relevant to membrane processes span length scales from the molecular scale (angstroms to nm) to the module scale (meters) and further to large acre-scale systems that can process millions of kilograms of materials per day. Catalyzed by broad interest across a wide range of disciplines, innovations are occurring daily at each of these scales. This conference wants to provide the attendees both a snapshot of some of these advances as well as the opportunity to engage in active discussions regarding the fundamental principles behind new advances, the ever-evolving understanding of transport in and structure of membranes at the molecular scale, and the challenges and opportunities for translating some of these exciting advances to practical scales.
