The accurate modelling for converters and systems plays an important role in the analysis for its application in renewable energy such as reliability and oriented design. However, the nonlinear factors in power converters and systems, caused by the switching behaviour, nonlinear controls, nonlinear loads and so on, make the conventional modelling and analysis methods infeasible and even confronted with challenges. In addition, the existing modelling and analysis methods for power converters and systems cannot satisfy higher and higher engineering application requirements with the rapid development of renewable energy power generation, high voltage DC system, smart AC/DC system and future grid development.
In recent years, lots of new modelling and analysis methods for power converters and systems, such as improved small-signal modelling and stability criterion, large-signal modelling and analysis methods, describing function methods and so on, have been proposed and developed to deal with the modelling and analysis for higher order or cascaded power converters and systems, which is exploring the deep application in power converter systems. The main objective of this special session is to share new research results and potentials in advanced modelling and analysis methods for power converters and systems among industry, and further promote the practical application in the power engineering.
