We are pleased to announce that the 2017 World Symposium on Transport and Land Use Research (WSTLUR) will be held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, July 3rd- July 6th, 2017. The conference will bring together academics and practitioners working at the intersection of transportation planning, engineering, economics and policy. The conference is aimed at developing a better understanding of the dynamic interaction between land use and transport, with strong interest in how the built environment can contribute to more sustainable transport in a rapidly changing world. Papers are welcome on all modes of personal, passenger, and freight transport on all spatial scales (see Call for Papers). The conference brings together researchers and topics from all parts of the world.
The conference program will feature peer-reviewed paper presentations, workshops, technical tours, and plenary presentations from:
In addition to a thorough exploration of a wide range of land use and transportation issues, the 2017 conference will emphasize two spotlight themes: technological change and equity. Specifically, how will technological change influence the development of land use and transportation systems in the future? What equity issues will emerge via future changes in land use and transportation systems? How do technology and equity relate in the context of land use and transportation systems?
Call for PhD Thesis Abstracts for Best Student Thesis Award
The World Society for Transport and Land Use Research (WSTLUR) invites recent PhD graduates and PhD candidates who will defend their theses prior to the conference (thesis defense dates between July 1, 2015 and July 3, 2017) to submit an abstract summarizing their completed thesis or portion of their completed thesis to the WSTLUR 2017 Symposium in Brisbane. Portions of the theses are allowed to have been presented previously at other conferences. These thesis abstracts will be considered for presentation at the conference and will be considered for the Best Student Thesis Award. People who have their thesis abstract accepted will be allowed to register for the conference at the student rate. The winner will receive an award certificate signed by WSTLUR leadership and be recognized at the conference.
Submission instructions: Abstracts should be a maximum of 1,000 words. They should be accompanied by a short letter from the thesis advisor(s) supporting the application and explaining (in less than 100 words) why the thesis merits the award and confirming the completion of their defense or providing the expected defense date. Abstracts and advisor support letters should be submitted by e-mail directly to Student Thesis Award Chair, Dr. Kelly Clifton, Portland State University (kclifton@pdx.edu). The submission deadline is March 31, 2017.
