The International Symposium on Semiconductor Light Emitting Devices, ISSLED, is a continuation of the biennial meeting previously named In-ternational Symposium on Blue Lasers and Light Emitting Devices. The first meeting was chaired by Professor A. Yoshikawa at Chiba Univ-ersity (Japan, 1996). The seventh meeting in the series was chaired by Professor F. A. Ponce in Arizona, the United States, in 2008. This eighth meeting is the first one to be held in China.
