Structural biology has become one of most important tools to understand the fundamental principles of life. CryoEM has multiple advantages to investigate the structures of macromolecular machineries in their native state with high resolution information. In recent years, CryoEM has developed into its revolution phase along with significant advancements in specimen preparation, hardware development and image processing algorithms. With these advancements, many complicated macromolecular complexes whose structures were impossible to be determined now have been solved to near atomic resolution using CryoEM.
To introduce the latest CryoEM techniques and methods to students and young scientists in the field, especially in east Asia, we organized series of workshops in recent years, including “International Workshop of 3D Molecular Imaging by Cryo-Electron Microscopy-2010”, “Get acquainted with Cryo-Electron Microscopy: Chinese Workshop for Structural Biologists-2016”,“International Workshop of Advanced Image Processing of Cryo-Electron Microscopy-2015” and a few others. These workshops have made great contributions to the rapid growth of cryoEM studies within China and beyond.
The major topic of this workshop will be relevant to the following items,
Novel algorithms to analyze molecular machineries with continuous conformational change;
Image processing tools to analyze the structure of molecular machineries in situ;
Tools and methods to aid accurate modeling based on CryoEM maps;
New tools for high-throughput single particle analysis.
