The age of Big Data is coming, which has significant impact on higher education. The application of Big Data in universities and colleges is still limited in the early phase of "Internet plus". A truly applicable Big Data system has not been built, with its function only limited in the information collection and integration for students and the establishment of a unified information system. This paper will provide reasonable advice for the application of Big Data in universities and colleges, in terms of its operating status and its essential characteristics. It will focus on three issues as the improvement of information asymmetry and teaching management and innovation of the overall operation in universities and colleges.
