An Empirical Study on Population Capacity of Urban Land in Macao

Abstract—We explicitly analyzes the increasingly prominent contradiction between supply＆demand situation of Macao’s land and population in theory. Based on our assess and predict of Macao’s economic development in the next decade, the overload state of Macao’s urban land and population are becoming more and more serious Furthermore we build an index system of land bearing capacity and econometric models for empirical analysis ,the model further predicts the population carrying capacity of land in Macao has nearly a straight-line diagonally upward trend. Finally we put forwards some relevant conclusions and recommendations:(i)The best way to solve the problem of Macao’s population carrying pressure of land is to reform the land system, optimize the land use structure and improve the land carrying efficiency. (ii) The fundamental way to expand Macao’s land area is to conduct land lease and land replacement through the regional cooperation among Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta.
