摘要
In this study, the collapse dynamics of fluid-particle mixture columns under different aspect ratio conditions are investigated using a coupled computational fluid dynamic (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM). The water and Herschel-Bulkley (HB) fluids mixed with particles are considered in the simulation, and dry granular columns with the same aspect ratio is simulated as a reference test. The results show that, compared to dry granular columns, both water and HB fluid significantly promote particle motion by reducing inter-particle contact, and this promotion increases with the aspect ratio. However, although the HB fluid induces more particles to participate in the motion due to its higher buoyancy effect, it does not lead to a longer final runout distance than that of the water-particle mixture. We also found that fluid properties have little effect on particle collapse behavior under shallow column conditions, while in tall columns, the effects of different fluids on particle collapse behavior are significant.
