摘要
The discovery of therapeutic peptides presents significant challenges. Investigations of polypeptides derived from marine organisms remain relatively scarce due to limited access to these organisms. Emerging bioinformatic techniques now enable the elucidation of polypeptide compositions from various zoanthids. We conducted a comprehensive transcriptomic and proteomic analysis to characterize the compositional profiles of polypeptides from various cnidarian species, which exhibit a broad range of functions, including enzymes, potent pore-forming toxins, and neurotoxins. For example, neurotoxic peptides can rapidly immobilize predators by modifying sodium channel gating or blocking potassium channels during the repolarization phase. This could provide insights that may lead to drug treatments for neurological diseases. Neuronal degeneration is closely correlated with inadequate cellular energy supply and the subsequent imbalance of ionic gradients. This presentation will focus on neuroprotective agents derived from marine organisms that contain ion channel-affinity peptides.
