Advanced Wakefield Experiment (AWAKE) at CERN is the world first and only proof-of-principle experiment on proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration. It utilized the 400 GeV proton beam from the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) as the drive beam, to excite a large amplitude plasma wakefield and accelerate an externally injected low-energy electron beam to high energy in a 10 m long plasma.

In this talk, I will review the concept of proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration [1]. The great achievements from AWAKE experiment will be presented including the first demonstration of stable seeded self-modulated (SSM) and electron acceleration [2]. I will also introduce the progress of current AWAKE Run 2 experiment [3] and the future plans [4].
