Superconductivity in van der Waals metal sulfides under high pressure

MX2 and MX3 are two important material families, in which exotic physical properties exist, such as charge density wave, superconductivity and metal-insulator transition. The layered structures determine the sensitive character of these compounds to external pressure environment. The high-pressure studies on such van der Waals materials have shown diverse physical phenomena, and pressure-induced superconductivity is one of them. Here, we are going to show some cases, especially the superconductivity observed in highly insulating compounds, such as SnS2, HfS2 and HfS3 et al. The introduction of extra sulfur atom in MX2, the system will transfer from typical 2-dimensional structure to quasi-one-dimensional structure, while the superconductivity behavior changes significantly. Our works will inspire the exploration of new superconductors and be of great benefit on the investigation of superconductivity mechanism.
