Partial discharge detection is a key technology in the safety assessment of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS). Electrical ultrasonic sensors are susceptible to strong electromagnetic interference in environments with high voltages and strong magnetic fields. Ultrasonic waves attenuate quickly in SF6 gas at high pressure, leading to blind detection areas for external optical interference type sensors. We propose a fiber optic interferometer sensor built-in GIS partial discharge measurement method, and verify the rationality of the method by finite element simulation. And experiments are designed to verify the detection performance of the sensor. The experiments prove that the sensor has a wide frequency response and high sensitivity under high voltage electric field. Partial discharge ultrasonic signals measured inside GIS are more sensitive and accurate. Sensors can detect partial discharges in GIS equipment at much lower detectable initial partial discharge voltages.
