At present, the AC operation mode mostly used in the transmission and distribution network has problems such as line loss during the transmission process, while the DC transmission does not have the increase of reactive power consumption, so the DC transmission technology has been widely developed. In this paper, a three-core XLPE AC power cable with a rated voltage of 110kV is selected. Through the establishment of a finite element simulation software model, the calculation of the classical thermal circuit method and the simulation of the electro-thermal coupled field are used to verify the current carrying capacity of the cable. In the case of DC operation, the electric field, temperature field and stress distribution in the insulating layer provide a theoretical reference for the subsequent AC distribution cables to DC operation
