This paper reviews current research progress concerning the inventory routing problem (IRP). The various IRP and its models are summarized in this paper. Because there are many types of the IRP in terms of its models, and the researchers have developed many algorithms based on different models. The IRP is classified according to the models and the algorithms in this paper. This study analyzes the characteristics of the model proposed in the previous IRP literature in the time horizon and the topology structure. This paper also introduces the typical algorithms used in previous research on the IRP and proposes some valuable future research fields.
