Efficiency Evaluation and Optimization Strategy of Campus Parking Areas Based on Arena Simulation

Parking areas in university are different from social parking lots, because universities have more decentralized parking areas. Links in different parking regions aren’t strong, and the utilization rate is unbalanced, resulting in a greater waste of parking resources. Therefore, how to simulate and evaluate the efficiency of the campus multiple parking areas, then take optimization strategies of the campus parking system, which is of great significance. In this paper, a simulation model of campus multi-parking areas is built based on Arena software, and an operation efficiency evaluation method is proposed to determine the optimization strategy.
The first step is to build a simulation model of campus parking. The logical structure is divided into three parts: vehicle input module, diversion module and parking module. Secondly, get the evaluation data of average parking time (1), parking turnover (2), average parking lots utilization ratio (3) and maximum searching time (4) through simulation. Finally, with the combination of subjective (AHP) and objective (Entropy Weight) weighting method, the comprehensive evaluation efficiency function is established, and the benefit increase of optimization strategy is calculated.
It is concluded that the weights of each index (1) - (4) are 0.134, 0.170, 0.255 and 0.441. We find the inefficiency of campus parking system is affected by long searching time during peak period, long parking time and unbalanced utilization ratio in different areas. The predicted benefits of taking regional organization-induced parking measures increase by 29.2%, and that of more parking lots measures increase by 18.0%. The former is 1.2% higher in the system parking efficiency.
