Green commuting is an effective way to alleviate urban traffic congestion and draws more attention of research organizations and government departments. At present, some researches on the proportion of green commuting are mainly carried out by means of questionnaire. This method is not only time-consuming and laborious, but also easy to cause deviation due to its small sample size. Based on route planning data of driving, cycling, walking and public transportation, this study calculates the proportion of green commuting in cities via the Internet means, and construct a green commuting willingness index (GCWI). Through the GCWI, the different situations of green commuting of 50 major Chinese cities are analyzed to reflect the characteristics of these cities. Furthermore, this study provides data support for decision-making and policy-perfecting to local government departments, and helps to raise public awareness of green commuting.
