摘要
Passenger’s misbehavior has been considered as one of the most important sources of the negative experience of public transport. While it is extensively discussed in public media lately, there is little specific investigation, however, on the causes of such misbehaviors in the academia. Taking 300 responses from college students at Tongji University as a sample, this paper explores the impacts of perceived social norms on the passenger’s misbehavior in the metro carriage. Ordinal logistic regression results indicate that social norms play important role in mediating individuals' misbehavior. Regarding specific behavior, personal norms impose a greater influence than descriptive norms in context of talking loudly on the phone, sitting with cross legs, relying on banister and littering, while for eating hot food and peers too close, two different norms show comparable results. The findings of the study contribute to the understanding of why passengers misbehave in metro carriage, as well as design of countermeasures for the misbehavior.
