When designing a vehicle, to improve the ride comfort, investigating vibration from the road has become more important than before. Harsh vibration caused by driving over a small bump is one of the important evaluation factors to develop the comfort. To relieve the discomfort of the harshness generated by driving over a bump, modifications of the amplitude and the arrival time of the vibration wave are needed. Therefore, we need to control the transient responses of vibration transmitted to the passenger. However, the efficient structural modification to change the transient response has not been established. In this paper, as the first step to establish this, we propose a method which improves structural transient response by moving the maximum peak from one time to another.
We had developed a sensitivity analysis of transient response in the time domain [1, 2] and have examined the fundamental feasibility of controlling the appearing time of the maximum amplitude by applying sensitivity analysis of transient response in the time domain [3]. In this paper, we considered an efficient way to detect the suitable modification location by applying sensitivity analysis and mutual mean compliance which shows each component’s contribution to the vibration. First, mutual mean compliance is applied to find the component with large contribution. Then, sensitivity analysis is conducted to the component to detect the suitable modification location. The fundamental feasibility is examined by moving the maximum peak of the structural transient response.
