The reactive power control of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) plays an important role in improving power system voltage stability. Firstly, the reactive power capability of the commercial DFIG and its limitations are analyzed. It is pointed out that the DFIG has a strong reactive power output and absorption capability. On this basis, the distributed dynamic reactive power support system based on the DFIGs is proposed. The dynamic reactive power capability of the DFIGs can be fully explored by the proposed system. As a result, the dynamic reactive power reserve is increased and the power system voltage stability is improved. Finally, the simulation results of Zhejiang Power Grid validate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
