The local mounted protective relaying, designed for 3rd generation smart substation, is different from the operating environment of traditional protection equipment, which leads to the special structure of the localization protection device. This paper establishes the reliability analysis model for the 3rd generation smart substation. And the proposed evaluation indexes the fault tree and Monte Carlo simulation are used to jointly solve the model. In the end the new generation protective relaying with local mounted is divided the complex structure into several functional parts, such as digital units, applied proposed strategy to analyze. The results of analysis are improved the development of new generation protection.
