Abstract—To obtain the fault location accurately, a new method of single-phase grounding fault location based on wavelet packet and signal distance is proposed. When a single-phase grounding fault occurs in the resonant grounding system of the distribution network, the wavelet packet is used to decompose the zero-sequence current after the fault, and after neglecting the lowest frequency band where the power frequency is located, the coefficients of each layer in the wavelet packet decomposition are extracted. The coefficients are processed by signal distance algorithm to form a segment locating vector, and the largest one in the vector corresponds to the fault segment. Simulation results indicate that the method can overcome the influences of fault conditions such as transition resistance and Fault initial phase angle, and can accurately locating the single-phase ground fault.
