The study mainly researched the liquefaction of wheat straw to produce ethyl levulinate (EL) and ethyl glucoside (EG) catalyzed by a series of catalysts. A high conversion rate (85 %) of wheat straw and high yield of ethyl levulinate (23 %) and ethyl glycoside (40 %) were achieved at the optimal conditions. The highest yield of EL was taken place at the conditions of ethanol/WS mass ratio of 15, 10 wt% of catalyst, reaction temperature of 200oC, and reaction time of 60 min. But for EG, the optimal conditions were ethanol/WS mass ratio of 12, catalyst dosage of 5 wt%, reaction temperature of 180oC, and reaction time of 20 min. Ionic liquid was proved to be more efficient than the other catalysts used in the study. And the catalytic performance of ionic liquids is enhanced by sulfonic acid functional groups.
